Nintendo eShop and Portable Virtual Console

Wednesday 15th June, 2011 - 5:25pm | Chandler

Super Mario Land Title
This month Nintendo rolled out their Nintendo 3DS eShop which includes the Virtual Console for portable games. Nintendo has promised Game Boy, Game Boy Color games as well as Sega Game Gear and Turbo Grafx-16* games in the future. Here is the current line-up:

Game Boy (Available Now!)

  • Super Mario Land - $3.99

  • Alleyway - $2.99

  • Radar Mission - $2.99

Game Boy Color (Available Now!)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - $5.99

Game Gear (Announced for this Summer 2011)
  • Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble

  • Sonic Drift 2

  • Shinobi

  • Columns

  • Dragon Crystal

As you can see the United States does not have many titles available but Nintendo is scheduled to update their shop every Thursday with new titles to choose from. Since Japan already has Mega Man: Dr. Wiley's Revenge, Baseball, Kirby, and other tiles, it's pretty safe to say there are a bunch of quality titles headed to our North American 3DS consoles soon.

*Note: No Turbo Grafx-16 games have been formally announced yet.

Super Mario Land is Weird - But in a good way!

Tuesday 14th June, 2011 - 8:46am | Chandler

I remember playing this for the first time as a kid thinking the same thing. But like Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES, this game holds its own charm and a special place in an original Game Boy player's heart. Let's be honest, besides Tetris this was the must-have game at launch. I knew I had to have it, and it was the first retail game I purchased. Enjoy.

A tribute to Gunpei Yokoi

Tuesday 31st August, 2010 - 12:48pm | neuropol

Harajuku Exhibit - Gunpei Yokoi

In the Harajuku, an exhibit is being shown featuring the works of Gunpei Yokoi. The exhibit covers his work from the 60's through the time of his death. They are also selling a good bit of related items, both used originals and reproductions.

I would imagine that most visitors know the major contributions he made to the video gaming world, so I'll skip the history lesson. The pics are still worth a look through, as Gunpei was involved in many more products than is often covered.
